Here is my example of how to find out the greatest common factor
Here are the numbers that I choose to work with: 28 and 40
Example: You have to be able to multiply all of these numbers, and they all have to come out to your chosen number: 1 x 28 = 28, 2 x 14 = 28 and then the same goes for the number 40
1, 2, 14, (28)
1, 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 20, (40)
After looking at all of the above numbers 2 would be your Greatest Common Factor.

ok - You made a reasonable attempt to explain GCF, but you didn't define the vocabulary and you explination wasn't quite correct. Make sure you list ALL of the factors. It helps me to list them in pairs - 1,24 - 2,12. The actual answer to your example is 4. :) Try adding a link next time.
